We are very proud of how the matriarch of Van Loveren, Ouma Jean, planted trees to commemorate special occasions. We think of it not only as a garden tour, but as a heritage tour. There is a sense of wonder as you are able to grasp the amount of time passed by looking at the size of these trees.
The beautiful garden surrounding the winery is the legacy of Jean Retief who, since her arrival in 1939, has planted many trees to commemorate special family, political and historical occasions.
