Waterkloof Estate’s slick tasting lounge offers guests the ideal vantage point for an elevated wine tasting experience ‘in the sky’. The tasting area with its over scaled, omnipresent views of the farm and nature in progress, allows visitors to be at the centre of the farm, celebrating the culmination of winemaking and tasting.

The entrance to the Waterkloof cellar, tasting room and restaurant is designed to hold guests in awe, showcasing the sincere, clean essence of the estate’s elegant wines. Tall glass walls allow views of both the working cellar and the farm below, as well as the Helderberg basin and False Bay in the glistening distance, while raw concrete columns frame artworks from prominent South African artists.

On warmer days, the weather calls one outside onto the balcony, a glass of Waterkloof’s exceptional, terroir-driven Sauvignon Blanc or Cape Coral Rosé in hand, with the crisp flavours subtly echoed by the fragrances of the cooling breeze. On cold days, the slick tasting lounge’s two meter diameter open fireplace and stylish leather furniture combine to create an atmosphere of warmth and tranquil leisure – the perfect accompaniment to the estate’s mellowed Merlot and spicy Shiraz.

The estate’s knowledgeable and friendly tasting staff looks forward to introducing every guest to the Waterkloof experience. The wine list and tasting notes are presented in stylish binders, which also feature membership forms to join the Waterkloof Wine Club. The club’s membership rewards have been carefully chosen to indulge one’s pursuit of the enjoyment of life, with a wide array of benefits that include free tutored tastings, notice of specials and limited releases, invitations to members-only events, and the reservation of flagship wines with the option to purchase, prior to their public release date.

Guests wishing to pair their tasting with something light to nibble on, can opt for the Waterkloof Platter (R130) - which also features the estate’s award-winning Healey’s Slow Matured Cheddar - to be enjoyed right there in the lounge at their leisure.

A standard Waterkloof wine tasting costs R30 per person for a flight of six wines from Waterkloof’s False Bay and Peacock Ridge collections, or R40 for a premium tasting of the estates exclusive Circle of Life and Circumstance wines.
