The Aleit & IS Art Gallery is housed in an 18th Century room where South African contemporary art is fittingly displayed in the inspiring setting of one of the oldest and most established estates of the Cape, Lourensford Wine Estate.

The story of is art and us
The collaboration between Aleit Swanepoel and Ilse Schermers Griesel, the owner of IS Art in Franschhoek and IS Sculpture at Tokara, is an eagerly hoped-for dream-come-true. Over the past two decades, Ilse has been distinguished as a leader in the South African contemporary arts arena. And on the other end, Aleit, as you might know, has always been an avid admirer and private curator of all things beautiful.

Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art?
The curated collections include works from more than 25 South African artists. From Keiskamma: A community project with embroidered art pieces; Theo Kleynhans with his uniquely distinguished lustre fired earthenware; Andre Stead; Uwe Pfaff; Lionel Smit – just to name a few. The pieces display the use of various mediums – from acrylic or oil on canvas, bronze, resin, porcelain, ceramic, lithograph prints, and more.

Bold brushestrokes
It is said that art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. It does something to the human heart – it brings quietness. “I might not be an artist, yet I feel the meaning in every brushstroke.” It is refreshing to look at something so far removed, yet so familiar at the same time – to find it without vanity and an inspiring piece of optical goodness indeed. Walk through IS Art Gallery and find the best visual goodness to suit your walls.
