Ivanhoe Sea Safaris

Ivanhoe Sea Safaris was granted the 1st whale viewing by boat permit in 1998 and have been working with various scientists since 1996.
We specialize in taking tourists to view Southern Right Whales from close up from our luxury boat Ivanhoe. We utilize only Specialist Whale Guides registered with SATOUR and have the permit for Overberg sub-area 2 of Walker Bay.

Walker Bay is world-renowned for having the most Southern Right Whales visits of all the areas of South Africa where Boat Based Whale Watching is permitted.

We operate from Gansbaai, on the Southern side of Walker Bay, directly across from the world-famous cliff paths of Hermanus on the Northern side of the Bay.

Our whale watching vessel, "Ivanhoe", is the queen of the South African whale watching fleet. Commissioned in October 2004, she was designed specifically for watching whales by Rudy, the most experienced whale skipper in South Africa. Southern Right

While capable of carrying forty, we limit "Ivanhoe" to thirty guests, enabling all to be seated. She has been designed as a dry boat; no one gets wet, so the wearing of rain suits or foul weather gear is not necessary.

"Ivanhoe" is a catamaran - over 42 ft in length and powered by two 225 hp, pollution-free Yamaha engines, which are renowned for their quietness and reliability.

Catamaran stability, a high-up whale viewing deck and a lower deck with all-round viewing plus large, dry cabins and a toilet are just some of the features of this luxuriously comfortable custom-built vessel.
